E' facile sospettare che l'oggetto della conversazione sia un semplice pettegolare che forse riguarda una delle due bambine che ha il volto atteggiato a preoccupazione, mentre l'espressione del viso dell'altra sembra assumere una valenza di severità. Il titolo quindi è pienamente confacente al soggetto che viene espresso con grande verismo. Il cromatismo è accentuato e riesce a mettere in risalto le figure delle bambine e la grande espressività dei volti. Il tratto è sicuro ma riesce a conservare una certa indeterminatezza che accresce la leggerezza della composizione. La pittrice dimostra così di aver raggiunto una grande capacità figurativa. Perciò la sua capacità di affrontare la figura umana, che per molti rappresenta una difficoltà insormontabile, ci lascia preasagire il raggiungimento di livelli ancora più elevati nella sua arte pittorica."
